Niven defines the gentleman thief role, but Mr.Clive nearly steals the picture as his butler. Olivia is wasted as the love interest with not much to do.

Take a look at the tribute Elvis wrote for his mother if you haven’t seen it yet. Moving for many reasons, but it is the devoted curation of details from her life that stays with me. Attending to those and holding details like these in memory, though hard to bear, is beautiful, responsible, slowly transformative work on a soul, don’t you think? I remember the drive we took together from SF to Modesto. A drive and picnic day along the pacific coast. A text exchange where each sentence was real and unexpected.
